Getting "Out Of Memory" errors?

Clarity is a 32-bit process, which means it can use the max of 2GB RAM, but if you use more than one demanding instrument, it can still be beneficial to have 8 GB RAM, so the PC has enough RAM left for OS and other apps.

Sometimes you may get the error "Out Of Memory", caused, e.g., when opening a chromatogram in the Chromatogram window. This may be caused by using a particular method, which has been saved over and over again due to some modifications. Since version 8.3, every saving of such method results in creating another method's version (number of versions is displayed at the top of Method setup behind the method name as "- #number"). These versions increase Method file size; when such a method is used, memory can be depleted, forcing the software to misbehave.

As a remedy:

  • Try to save the method using the command Save As under a new name. This will save your method without previous versions, decreasing the file size.
  • Do not use "Open chromatograms in Overlay" when running the Sequence.
  • Do not open resulting chromatograms when Sequence is running (Disable the checkbox in the Open column).
  • Update Clarity to the newest version (in Clarity 9.0 memory handling is improved).
